Staff Software Engineer, Data Protection

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with distributed compute environments, software development, big data analytics, cloud computing including virtualization, hosted services, multi tenant cloud infrastructures, storage systems or content delivery networks.
  • Experience with software development in C/C++, C#, Java, Python or Go.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, and experience with compute technologies, storage, and hardware architecture.
  • Experience with Google- scale infrastructure.

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

We build and maintains data protection capabilities that integrate across Google’s storage, data processing, and AI stacks. Our infrastructure provides fine-grained policy enforcement, access filtering, and guardrails for data handling systems and emerging AI workloads. By building friction-free, standardized protections directly into foundational platforms, we help engineering teams across Alphabet launch and iterate on products quickly while maintaining high security and privacy standards.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

  • Drive implementation of high-scale infrastructure optimizing cost, latency, and reliability.
  • Partner cross-organizationally to integrate our infra into foundational Google systems.
  • Build developer-first solutions that maximize company-wide adoption with minimal toil.
