Staff Interaction Designer, Labs

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience in user interface (UI) design, visual design, typography, layout, or designing digital ecosystems and multi-surface products.
  • Experience working with engineering and cross-functional product teams to deliver digital products.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using AI-assisted developer workflows or AI prototyping tools to build functional, interactive user journeys.
  • Experience navigating codebases, staging, testing, and shipping changes directly to developer or production environments.
  • Experience working in small, agile teams on experimental, zero-to-one product spaces.
  • Experience communicating design logic and collaborating with cross-functional partners to influence product strategy.

From creating user flows and wireframes to building mockups and prototypes, you will envision and bring product experiences to life with an inspired, refined, and magical feel. You will join our multi-disciplinary UX team, collaborating with Engineering and Product Management, leveraging user insights to create industry-leading products.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

This role is focused on building sophisticated consumer experiences that blend proactive intelligence with seamless daily workflows. You will synthesize complex, fragmented multi-surface workflows into a unified, elegant mental model. In this role, you will take full ownership of designing and launching new, standalone user surfaces, beginning with a major new platform initiative scheduled to launch this fall. The ideal designer is comfortable navigating technical constraints and working closely with engineering teams to ensure design fidelity is delivered.

US: $188000 - $275000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Lead the zero-to-one design and launch of new, standalone user surfaces from early-stage concept to final production, beginning with a major platform initiative launching this fall.
  • Synthesize complex, fragmented multi-surface workflows into a unified, elegant, and cohesive mental model for users.
  • Architect premium visual systems and layout structures to translate abstract intelligence concepts into tangible, responsive consumer experiences.
  • Establish, articulate, and advocate core design principles for agentic human-system interaction to ground cross-functional decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners from early-stage concept exploration to final high-fidelity execution in production.
