UX Researcher, Games, Google Play

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science,
    Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, related field, or equivalent
    practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in an applied research setting (e.g., product or academic), or similar.
  • Experience with research methods (e.g., usability, studies, contextual inquires, 1:1 interviews, unmoderated research studies).
  • Experience collaborating with Engineers, Content Strategists, and Product Managers throughout the UX process.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • 3 years of experience working with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • 2 years of experience conducting UX research on products, managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Ability to independently scope, execute, analyze, synthesize both qualitative and large-scale quantitative studies.
  • Experience in games related research is a bonus.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, with excellent communication, and collaboration skills.

At Google, we "Focus on the user and all else will follow." As a User Experience Researcher (UXR), you make this possible. You will join our multi-disciplinary UX team, collaborating with Engineering and Product Management, to gather insights and create industry-leading products.

You’ll play a critical role in helping your team understand user needs and will drive impact at all stages of product development, ensuring products are useful, usable, and helpful. You will explore user behaviors and motivations by conducting primary research, including: field studies, interviews, diary studies, ethnography, surveys, usability testing, and logs analysis. You will also grow within a supportive UXR community offering mentorship, regular meetups, and exclusive internal tools.

The Google Play Games team is dedicated to delivering the best gaming experiences to billions of users globally.

In this role, you are embarking on an ambitious multi-year plan to drive significant growth in the multi-billion-dollar Play business by expanding and improving the multiplatform experiences, game store surfaces, loyalty program, and various features focused on gamer engagement. Google Play offers music, movies, books, apps and games for devices, powered by the cloud. It syncs across devices and on the web. As part of the Android and Mobile team, Googlers working on Google Play do everything from engineering our backend systems, to shaping product strategy, to forming great content partnerships. They make it possible for people to do things like buy an ebook or song on their Android phone, then have it instantly available on their laptop. The Google Play team enhances the Android ecosystem by giving developers and partners a premium store where they can reach millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct independent research using a variety of qualitative research methods, including but not limited to: interviews, surveys, diary studies, etc.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (design, engineering, and product management) and cross-team to ensure teams make user-centric, data-driven decisions.
  • Deliver high quality research plans and reports that are easily understandable and framed around insights.
  • Independently prioritize work while managing stakeholder relationships and expectations across a range of work streams on a range of trajectories and velocities.
  • Advocate research findings and insights to various audiences through written reports and verbal presentations.
