Data Center Mechanical Engineer

Remote location: Georgia, USA.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience in mechanical infrastructure.
  • 5 years of experience in design, construction, and commissioning of either chilled water cooling systems, air handling systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground dry/wet utilities.
  • 5 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a professional engineering license.
  • Experience in designing complex modular building scale assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical data center mechanical equipment.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems, domestic water systems, and sanitary sewer systems in mission-critical facility design and construction environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles with specific expertise in the areas of design for medium-scale production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes.
  • Operational knowledge of construction safety procedures.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

As a Data Center Services Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the field-level implementation and operational support of Google’s rapidly expanding data centers. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical distribution systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, swiftly, and with high quality. You will manage site-level mechanical engineering issues, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations, supporting quality assurance, and providing technical guidance to vendor teams. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator who grows on construction sites and has experience with complex mechanical systems, ideally within mission-critical facilities, heavy industrial, oil and gas, or semiconductor industries.

US: $144000 - $209000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and Research and Development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Data Center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) core teams to develop, implement, and manage the data center (DC) mechanical designs at site starting from basis of design (BOD) to issued for construction (IFC) data center services documents for new DC projects build outs, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Oversee all site-level mechanical system issues throughout the project execution phase, diagnose and resolve issues with cross-functional teams, uphold DC-related mechanical system design requirements and interface documents, manage and comply with the change control process.
