Software Engineer, Pixel Audio Experience and Intelligence

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++/Java/Kotlin), or 2 years of experience with an advanced degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in the full development cycle for Android framework and application development.
  • Experience building complex Android applications with deep system integrations.
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose for building native UI on Android.
  • Experience with audio processing, acoustics, or speech technologies.
  • Experience with Android system-level development (Frameworks, System UI).
  • Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including unit testing, integration testing, and design documentation.

Pixel Audio Experience and Intelligence team is an innovative team focused on building a next-generation audio intelligence platform for Pixel and Android devices. Our team spans multiple mobile stacks, from low-level audio capture to high-level Android application development within Android system service and Play Store app.

Our mission is to augment human memory by intelligently capturing and processing audio to provide personalized, contextually relevant insights for Android users. We aim to launch an end-to-end solution that includes various technologies for audio processing, understanding, and a dedicated user interface for managing audio assets.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s software and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and optimize audio buffering and transmission from framework to application layers.
  • Integrate various audio models such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and LLM-based models.
  • Design and implement privacy-compliant storage and processing workflows.
  • Develop features for standalone app, including natural language search, and context-aware suggestions.
