Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of interaction design experience in product design or UX design.
  • Experience prototyping digital products or user interfaces using industry-standard design tools.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience designing for AI-powered features.
  • Experience with cross-product area influence and collaboration within a large organization.
  • Experience presenting design strategy and rationale to cross-functional partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading and mentoring other designers within a product team.
  • Experience designing consumer-facing digital products.
  • Strong visual design skills and expertise in Component and System Design.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

As a Senior Designer on Core Local Journeys, you’ll shape the design and execution of some of Google Maps’ most critical surfaces, impacting billions of users every month. You will hold a high bar for craft, balance complex technical constraints with user needs, and directly influence the future of how the world discovers and understands places.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $159000 - $231000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive design specs, prototypes, user flows, and assets that adhere to (and push the boundaries of) our design systems to gain cross-functional (xFN) alignment and seamlessly move concepts into production.
  • Integrate AI capabilities thoughtfully to accelerate and elevate user decision-making, transforming complex local data into intuitive insights that help users confidently choose where to go and what to do.
  • Manage complex, ambiguous project spaces autonomously, mentor junior designers, drive design critiques with clear rationale, and help elevate the craft and culture of the core UX team.
  • Partner closely with the broader UX team (design, research, and content strategy) and cross-functional peers (Product Manager (PM), engineering, marketing, and datascience) to advocate user-centric solutions.
  • Translate user research insights, market trends, and data metrics into scalable design solutions that solve real user pain points.
