Manager, Hardware Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 8 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a Hardware Engineering-related occupation.
  • Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 6 years of experience in the job offered or in a Hardware Engineering-related occupation.
  • Position requires 6 years of experience in the following: Technical leadership or People management for team development and project execution. Design and validation of interacting hardware subsystems or Hardware system integration. Applying systems architecture principles or System design for optimizing system testability, performance, reliability, and cost. Root-cause failure analysis or System-level debugging of hardware and software systems to triage and implement corrective actions. Applying domain-specific technical knowledge in wireless hardware design, system integration, and regulatory compliance.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,000-$329,000 + 25% bonus + equity + benefits determined by role, level, and location. Position reports to the Google San Jose, California office & may allow for a hybrid schedule per Google policy. International and domestic travel of more than 10% is required.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead your hardware engineering team by setting priorities and providing consistent performance coaching and feedback
  • Develop the long-term hardware roadmap by collaborating with internal partners and external vendors to align on strategic goals
  • Evaluate the feasibility of hardware designs against product requirements, customizing solutions based on performance, power, and technology trade-offs
  • Analyze complex hardware issues, risks, and trade-offs to drive corrective solutions for ambiguous or novel failures
  • Review and approve hardware design, architecture, and technology development activities across multiple complex product lines & Direct performance measurements and simulations to optimize user experience and lead continuous design and process improvement initiatives
