Senior Staff Software Engineer, User Protection

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of software development experience with one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience in a technical leadership position.
  • Experience designing and implementing any of the following: large-scale distributed systems, APIs used by other developers, ML (Machine Learning) systems.
  • Experience collaborating with and guiding a large team of engineers and TLs.
  • Ability to work with executive leadership and stakeholders like Product Management on platform and product strategy.

As Senior Staff Engineer in User Protection you will be responsible for technical work and contribute to the growth of our presence in Brazil, supporting a long term program and working in collaboration with our leads and teams in the United States, Europe and APAC.

You will pair with our ATL, to lead our platform evolution program, finding the path towards a sustainable replacement of our legacy platforms, critical operational infrastructure for clients like Gemini, Gmail, Maps and Search, with 1000 internal clients and 3M QPS. We help products, including new genAI launches, be safer for our users and protected from abuse.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with distributed engineering teams, cross-organization and cross-functional stakeholders to align on strategy.
  • Collaborate with product management and critical customers regularly to ensure the roadmap is delivering value continuously and is aligned with the strategy.
  • Work closely with the teams and stakeholders towards delivering on the strategy, unblocking the team on technical decision making and issues.
  • Communicate the strategy and the roadmap to cross-functional stakeholders and ensure continued alignment/support.
  • Mentor and grow the team on reliability, security, privacy and engineering best practices.
