Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure, Google Cloud Networking

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in building or maintaining complex, high-concurrency systems and understand the challenges of state, consistency, and scale.
  • Experience in engaging with the tech community—whether contributing to upstream special interest groups (SIGs), speaking at Meetups, or collaborating on Slack.
  • Expertise in network virtualization, distributed systems, and modern protocols.
  • Deep, "under the hood" understanding of Kubernetes or containerised environments strongly preferred. Knowledge of how controllers, schedulers, and APIs interact at scale.
  • Ability to grow on technical growth and to dive into unfamiliar territory.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the roadmap for Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) Networking, driving the evolution of virtualization solutions that support tens of thousands of nodes and beyond.
  • Design and develop high-performance networking solutions specifically optimized for large-scale model training, low-latency GPU communication, and autonomous agentic workloads.
  • Lead the design of both data plane and control plane elements, pushing the boundaries of network connectivity, security, and service mesh technologies.
  • Partner cross-functionally with GKE Platform and Cloud Networking teams to unify Google’s networking fabric.
  • Act as a primary voice in the Kubernetes Open Source community, influencing standards and advocating GKE innovations at global forums, meetups, and technical summits.
