Process Engineer, Supplier Development Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in a manufacturing/process/quality engineering role.
  • Experience in process engineering with thin film coatings, dry and wet etch.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in influencing design through data-driven Design for Excellence (DFx) proposals and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) callouts.
  • Technical knowledge of surface finishing such as thin film coatings, etching, glass processings.
  • Expertise in mechanical bonding like snap/press fits, ultrasonic welding, and adhesives.
  • Expertise in improving yields and cycle times for high-volume, premium-finish components.
  • Ability to implement cosmetic quality standards, color/finish measurement, defect catalogs, and grading limits.

As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will provide the manufacturing capabilities necessary to deliver high-quality hardware products to our users. You will be responsible for evaluating product designs and establishing the associated processes, tools, and procedures. Additionally, you will partner with vendors responsible for component fabrication to ensure that manufacturing processes remain controlled and repeatable. Working alongside commodity managers, design engineers, and various cross-functional teams, you will help define Google's product requirements and specifications. You will ensure that the varied components of Google's hardware integrate seamlessly, maintaining smooth product performance for an advanced user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product design, industrial design, project management, reliability, and product operations to deliver Google hardware products to market.
  • Provide detailed and critical design for manufacturing reviews of mechanical parts and make recommendations to product design to improve manufacturing processes for quality, yield, and cost.
  • Use statistical process control and yield studies to validate process capability (Cp/Cpk), establish reasonable specifications with product design/industrial design, and drive process improvements in partnership with a cross-functional team.
  • Work with reliability engineering to set up ongoing reliability test plans for manufacturing processes that are critical to function and fix the issue.
  • Act as the first-level go-to person for identifying suitable manufacturing processes. Identify and highlight manufacturability issues during engineering builds to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable during ramp.
