About the job

Google Vids is Workspace's AI-powered video tool for work, education and consumers. It's built on Google's video models and harnesses the power of Workspace’s entire product suite and integrations. Vids aims to empower everyone, regardless of their proficiency or experience, to become an exceptional video storyteller.

As a Staff User Experience Engineer specializing in delivering production-ready features you are a premier individual contributor and technical authority on front end production systems. You bridge the gap between UX outlook and high-performance implementation, taking full accountability for the delivery of sophisticated, user-facing features.

Unlike traditional UX Engineer roles focused on prototyping, your primary impact is measured by the volume, complexity, and quality of code you ship to production. You are expected to solve the most ambiguous frontend challenges, establishing architectural patterns that enable high-velocity development across the organization.

You serve as a "production beast," delivering mission-critical UI infrastructure and feature sets that define the product's quality bar, ensuring that every interaction is not only pixel-perfect, but engineered for scale, accessibility, and performance.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

  • Handle ambiguous UI/UX engineering challenges, such as advanced state management, intricate animations, or novel interaction models, where no clear precedent exists.
  • Partner with Software Engineer and UX Design leads to pressure-test technical feasibility, providing high-fidelity, production-grade solutions that resolve friction between design intent and engineering constraints.
  • Scale the team’s FE skills/capacity by providing tooling, 1:1 and group support for "vibe-coding" workflows when needed, unblocking designers through technical coaching, environment setup, etc.
