Hardware Test Engineer, Platforms Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience working in a lab environment.
  • Experience with Linux and networking configuration.
  • Ability to lift and move 30 lbs of equipment and work on platforms, ladders, and under raised floors.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certification in RHCE or CCNA.
  • 5 years of experience working in an engineering laboratory environment.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams on bringing up tasks on prototype hardware that include assembly, device programming with hardware tools, and firmware updates.
  • Ability to manage and organize lab inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain an organized, clean and safe operating lab.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

About the job

As a Specialized Hardware Test engineer, you will work with a team of hardware test engineers who are responsible for prototype bring-up, validation, and qualification of server, networking, and optical platforms. You will also be responsible for liaison between engineering design and test teams to ensure lab resources are accounted for and that we are ‘lab-ready’ for new products entering the Research and Development (R&D) labs as well as supporting sustaining and debug efforts. In addition you will ensure the labs are well organized and operating in a safe working environment.

Our Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs and builds the
hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. Our computational challenges are complex and unique, enabled by cutting-edge custom hardware designed and made in-house. As a hardware engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You will see those systems from concept all the way through to high-volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers, affecting millions of Google users.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $108000 - $153000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Perform Linux systems administrative tasks which will include debugging system and network issues related to lab networks and connectivity to engineering test setups.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on set up tasks such as prototype hardware assembly, programming with hardware tools, and installing firmware updates.
  • Receive and manage hardware components and material for projects and disperse hardware per allocation plan.
  • Work with teams bringing up new labs and services.   Tasks include documenting lab bench and rack configurations and prioritizing tasks related to project bring up.
  • Manage and organize lab inventory of consumables and equipment utilized by lab users and maintain an organized, clean and safe operating lab.
